NanoWrimo

50K words in the month of November??? We can do it!

The leaves are turning brilliant colors and falling from the trees. The air smells of fall and possible snow coming soon. It’s time for trick or treating, spooky costumes and Christmas is right around the corner.

It’s my favorite time of year. Why? NanoWrimo is coming!

If you haven’t heard of NanoWrimo before I would love to introduce you!

NanoWrimo is an abbreviation for National Novel Writing Month.

Nano is a creative writing challenge to write 50,000 words in the month of November. I have participated in Nano for around 12 years in a row now. In that time I have been able to create a running tally of 5 fiction novels and 3 non-fiction projects.

If you have ever had the dream of becoming a writer then Nano is perfect for you.

The idea is that you start with a blank page and just write. Don’t think about editing, structure, or all the things that normally hold us writers back from getting words onto the page.

You just write…and write…and write.

If you win Nano by completing the 50,000-word count then you get a lovely certificate from the Nano website. There are also exclusive goodies from Nano sponsors. This was how I found my tribe and writing group, Ninja Writers.

You can also connect with local groups of Nano writers. Each local group offers meetups and write-ins. It’s an excellent way to get to know other writers in your city.

Participating in Nano has enriched my life in so many ways. Even if I don’t win every year, I feel like a winner.

If you are interested in challenging yourself this year it’s not too late. Below is a list of resources to help get you started:

Announcing My 2021 Writing Project

This past year I published my poetry book “Through My Eyes.” In it, I share a series of coming-of-age poems that I wrote from my teens into my twenties.

For Nano, I am going to be a bit of a Nano rebel.

I will be writing an expanded version of my poetry book sharing the stories behind the poems. What inspired each piece. Why did I feel the need to write it?

I will also be adding in some new poems that have never been published before. I’m hoping to have the completed novel “Through My Eyes Expanded Version” available on Kindle at the beginning of next year.

So, are you up for the challenge? I would love to hear from you. Please leave a comment here with your Nano username and I will happily befriend you on the Nano website. My Nano username is Michelle March. I look forward to writing with you!
