How did your first workday of 2022 start?

I went to bed with my to-do lists made. I woke up motivated and ready to start my day. I looked out the window to see beautiful snow falling from the sky. the first snowfall of the year. I was so excited!

The first task of the day was taking a shower. I don’t know about you but for some reason, shower time is when I get a lot of my thinking done. I map out my day in my head. I think through all my tasks. I was getting really excited because I have some fun writing stuff I’m working on.

I sat down on my shower seat to shave my legs and all of a sudden, boom, it all comes crashing down.

No really, it all came crashing down! I heard tile ripping from the wall and cracking. My shower seat very quickly fell to the bottom of the shower floor ripping tile and drywall and whatever metal bar was holding the seat out of the wall.

I fell in a heap of limbs sprawled everywhere. I was shaving when I fell so the razor nicked my face a bit. I managed to get just a bit scraped on my back from the tile. I had survived the fall. But now came the very hard part. How on earth do I get up????

For those that don’t know, I deal with mobility issues. Thus needing the shower seat in the first place.

And this is where having a google mini in my bathroom steps in and saves the day. When I was working on my Migraine life hacks blog series my next post for the new year was going to be about having a google mini or something like that in your bathroom if you deal with mobility or falling issues.

I yelled to my google to alert my husband who was upstairs working in his office to come and help me and soon I could hear him running down the stairs to come to my rescue.

He grabbed my handy foam kneeling pad from the closet and I was able to roll onto my knees (ouch) and then roll onto my foam pad. Once I was there I still couldn’t quite get up. I didn’t have anything to use to pull up. My husband tried helping but that didn’t go well. So I ended up crawling on my hands and knees out of the shower onto a towel. All while begging my husband not to watch lol. I didn’t want that image stuck in his head forever! Once out of the shower, I transitioned my foam kneeling pad in front of the sink and was able to pull up.

All in all, I have a scrape on my back, a cut on my cheek, some bruises, and I’m fairly sore but it could have been so much worse.

I’m so thankful that I had a plan in place in my bathroom just in case something like this happened one day. If you would like to read more about tips I created for making a safe space in your home, bedroom, and shower you can read those posts here.

So 2022, what else do you have in store for me?

I think you can throw whatever at me and I’m just going to brush myself off and get back up, over and over again.

There is no knocking me down for good!
